UI = OU

Of course when you begin to learn a language, the first thing to learn is how to pronounce the alphabet. To this day, I still do not know how to pronounce all of the Dutch alphabet. I’m not really trying to learn, but in the time here so far, I pick up some things like how the letters UI is pronounced OU. So huis sounds like house, and spui sounds like spou. OO sounds like OE so hoop sounds like hope. But what I realized recently is that the other exchange students figured this out way before I did and applied it in daily use while I shyly said SPUI like SPOU only because I had heard the Dutch say it that way but couldn’t tie down for myself why. And this whole time, I thought I had a knack for language. Then while biking to school today I had an epiphany. I don’t have a knack for language at all. All I did was have an obsession with Korean which made me dive into it with such passion that I thought I had a knack for all languages. Well I am not very good at korean either, but what I have a knack for is immense ability where passion is involved. Passion drives everything, and if I can be passionate about something then I can achieve a lot. Problem is, passion is not so easy to come by sometimes. I hope I stumble upon some soon, for something that is worthwhile and sustaining.
